The Value of Friendship: Why is Jamal and Forrester's friendship significant in film?
First of all, Jamal grew up in rough neighborhood in Bronx New york, where Forrester lives in his apartment in Bronx.Who hides his identity from public.He does not want to meet people, and does not want to write another book either.He cut off all the contacts. However, Jamal became a good friend of Mr. William. Their friendship has some good moral lessons. Jamal Wallace helps Mr. William to come out in public by going out to the basket ball court. William helps Jamal overcome racial prejudice against him and pursue his dream of becoming a good writer.
In the story, there are many interesting things between Jamal and Mr. William, but i like the way they kept their promise each other.The friendship between Jamal and William Forrester becomes important when he noticed that Jamal is a very talented young black boy and as well as very good in basketball. Mr. William used to look out through his apartment window while Jamal in the basketball court with some of his friends. They called Mr.William as a window guy. One day the boys asked Jamal to go in his apartment to something. When he get there, he saw the books all around in his apartment.He sneaks there and leaves behind his backpack full of writing. William returned his backpack next day, and Jamal found his all writing was corrected by him. That way Jamal knew, William is a reclusive writer. They both continue to touch each other and work together in William's apartment.
Mr. William and Jamal promise each other as a good friendship that,"Whatever we write in this apartment stays in this apartment." Jamal kept his promise even his teacher and school officials blame him as a plagiarism on his writing, but William came out and let them know that he is not a plagriasm. whatever in his writing that he wrote his own words. Therefore, their frienship is very important to eachother.If Jamal hadn't taught William what he did, William would have continued to live his broken life, and would died unfilled.
